We offer scenic flights over
the Riverland of South Australia. Other destinations
include the Coorong, Wilpena Pound, Lake Eyre, or wherever you want to go!
We can also provide charter flights,
aerial photography and inspection, banner
towing, urgent freight,
and other services. The sky really is the limit!
Berri Air Tours is a
local company, owned and operated by Tim and Sue Laidler.
Both have lived in (and
flown around) the Riverland for many years, operating their own
aircraft from their home airstrip. Between them, they have over 25
years and 5,000 hours
of flying experience, in light aircraft and gliders, over much of
Australia.
Our
Licences
Berri Air Tours is a fully licensed commercial enterprise, offering
properly qualified pilots,
and aircraft maintained and insured to charter standards. Our
operations are approved by CASA,
the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, who continue to check that safety
standards are maintained.
Our
Aircraft
The aircraft we use are Cessna Skylanes They have
four seats, so we can carry 3 passengers
as well as the pilot. There is a baggage area, about the same size as
a car's boot,
and they
have a high
wing allowing unrestricted views.

There's a lot to see from
the air in the Riverland - towns clustered along the Murray
River, the orchards growing around them, and extensive vineyards
now established:
irrigated areas that meet the vast areas of dry-land farms:
wetlands, the Bookmark Biosphere, the lakes and lagoons where
flocks of waterbirds live,
and colorful river cliffs

Sometimes travelling by
car, or by airline, would take too much of your time. Travelling
in a chartered aircraft, when and where you want, can be
cost-effective, especially if
more than one person will be travelling. Here's a guide to the

Costs range from $20.00* for a short
local flight up to $115.00* for and hour long
extended tour of the Riverland area.
*Based
on 3 passengers per flight
Reduced rates apply to longer tours and
charters – ask us for a quote.
Benefits: Time is
Money
In one hour, the
aircraft can carry three passengers, plus some baggage, a distance
of 240 km. This saves time, which the passengers can put to better
use. They will be less tired than they would from a long road
trip.
Aircraft travel
direct, rather than following roads, rivers or coastlines. They
don't have to slow down for the local traffic at each town, so the
travel times are often shorter than you might expect.

With a chartered
aircraft, you're not restricted to major airports. Many towns have
an airstrip, even though no airline service goes there. Also, our
aircraft can use many "bush" airstrips.
You can travel when
you want to - no more time wasted at the airport. Anyone
accustomed to airline travel will appreciate this.

air tours. Of course, we can take you where YOU want! Flights
normally originate from Berri, but other pickup points can be
arranged. Please note,

Local Riverland flight
(Flying
time, half hour)
This is enough time to fly over
most of the Riverland. On the way, you will also see
Lake Bonney, miles of the Murray River,
associated irrigation areas and spectacular river cliffs.

Mid length day tour
(Flying time 3.5 hours)
Renmark - Adelaide - Goolwa - Coorong - Loxton - Renmark
From Renmark, fly along
the Murray River to Waikerie, then over the Adelaide Hills and
Adelaide city. Continue around the Fleurieu Peninsula, where there is
the possibility of
seeing a whale or two, then stop at Goolwa for lunch. Return via
Hindmarsh Island, the
mouth of the Murray River and part of the Coorong, then fly along the
shore of Lake
Alexandrina to Mannum, and back to Renmark via Loxton and Berri.

Lake Eyre Tours
This tour is much more
interesting when Lake Eyre contains water! (At the moment it does).

Depart Renmark at
8.00 am - we fly over Wilpena Pound and along
the backbone of the Flinders Ranges to Leigh Creek.

Along the way you
can see places like Parachilna, Beltana, Blinman
and Lake Torrens (a dry lake longer than Lake Eyre)

Morning tea at Leigh
Creek
-
We then fly over the
Leigh Creek open cut mines and Maree, then
on to Lake Eyre.

Upon reaching Lake
Eyre, we fly up Jack Boot Bay or Belt Bay to
Delhunty and Hughes Islands, where the birds nest.

We then fly south to
Leigh Creek for lunch, overflying the "Maree Man"
and some spectacular geological formations.

Late lunch at Leigh
Creek

After this stop, we
fly home over the largest stand of natural mallee
in the world, and some interesting craters thought to have been
caused by meteorites.
Total flying time
is approximately 7 hours, plus two stops of 3/4 hour at Leigh Creek.
Morning tea, lunch, cold and hot drinks are provided.

Berri Air Tours are based in
the town of Berri, right in the heart of the
Riverland.
It's a 2.5 hour drive from Adelaide, 1.5 hours from Mildura and
approximately
8 hours country drive from Melbourne.
