Warragul is based at the Old Customs House on the SA/VIC border. This is one of the most natural areas available to houseboat hirers, being surrounded by national parks.

The area is noted for it’s large sandbars, ideal to tie up to. These are wonderful spots to enjoy a large range of activities; swimming and other water sports, bush walking ,watching the wild life such as kangaroos, emus, echidnas, koalas or goannas etc, fishing can be very successful here with many Callop ( Golden Perch, or Yellow Belly), and the elusive Murray Cod caught regularly, or you could even just relax and savour the river experience and scenery.

There are many spectacular cliff lines to photograph, such as Devils Elbow. A large sand and clay cliff with an impressive formation, This bend used to be a hazard for river steamer traffic prior to the locks and weirs being built, but is easily navigable. Higgins cutting is another former challenge with its narrow banks, however it is easily manageable. Complete instruction is given on the operation of Warragul and with regard to any potential challenge no matter how minor. This gives you the opportunity to use craft such as Warragul with confidence and enjoyment on a truly relaxing holiday.

With only a small fleet servicing this area the opportunity to savour the seclusion is boundless, travelling through the locks will open further reaches for you to explore during your time aboard. Downstream is Renmark a vibrant Riverland town to check out. On the way there you pass scenic areas such as Headings Cliffs, walk up to the lookout on top of these weathered sandstone cliffs and enjoy the view across the river and its flood plain. Chowilla station is also a historic site, operating in conjunction with the world renown Bookmark Biosphere. The Bookmark biosphere encompasses much of the region travelled through by Warragul with its many creeks and backwaters to explore by dinghy or canoe.

Upstream there many sites of historic significance, including the departure site at the Old Customs House. If you have chosen the option of a one way hire you will see many beautiful and historic sites as Cal Lal, Kulkurna, the Rufus River, the Frenchman, a steam driven pump at Kulnine near Lock 9 and Moorna Station etc.

Warragul has a proven reliability and comfort, as shown when hired by Tammy Van Wisse during her successful Murray Marathon Swim. With Warragul travelling a total distance of 2,180 km and being away for 13 weeks. The whole trip during one of the hottest summers on record, it was a test for any craft, but one that Warragul passed enjoyably.
