Murray River Channel

The Murray River Channel is the main artery of the river. Extending over 2,520 km north of Khancoban forming the New South Wales and Victorian border to Goolwa and the Coorong in South Australia. The channel links the forests, floodplains, wetlands and estuaries along the Murray River. It provides habitat for many native plants, fish and animals, while its banks support river red gum forests of high natural and cultural value.

The Murray River Channel relates to river flows, barriers to native fish migration and maintenance of channel stability.

Swanport Wetlands Reserve

This Murray River Wetland situated between the highway and the river is teaming with local wildlife. A boardwalk and viewing platform have been constructed to provide access for nature lovers and sight seers.

Lavender Federation Trail

A linear walking trail of 152 kilometres through diverse countryside traversing the eastern flanks of the Mt Lofty Ranges. The trail begins at Murray Bridge and takes a serpentine course to Truro at the northern gateway of the Barossa Valley.

Multi use horse riding, cycling and walking trail that traverses 269 kilometers of roadsides, forest tracks, private land and unmade road reserves with trail markers indicating route. Trail enthusiasts will enjoy “seeing the world in a different way” through the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Barossa and Clare Valley tourism regions.

Friends of Ferries-McDonald & Monarto Conservation Parks

Ferries-McDonald Rd, Monarto South, SA 5254

The parks contain one of the few pieces of remnant Mallee vegetation close to Adelaide. There is only foot traffic allowed through the parks and no camping or caravanning is allowed. There are no facilities or water supplies., Ferries McDonald Conservation Park is an 845 hectare mallee park, home of the endangered malleefowl. It is home to many bird species, echidnas and kangaroos.

Monarto Zoo

The Zoo has a network of approx 10 kms of walking tracks. For those visitors keen to explore the Zoo by foot, there are a range of walking tracks available ranging from easy to medium grading and are suitable for robust pushers. There are 5 walking tracks available ranging from 20 to 90 minutes.

The Round House

146 Railway Terrace Murray Bridge

The Roundhouse captures the history of the first permanent bridge to span the Murray River.  State Heritage and National Estate listed, this building has been lovingly resotred and maintained by local volunteers.  The Roundhouse was the first substantial building in Murray Bridge and has significant historical value to the early development of the town serving as a School, Post Office, Church and Council chambers.
