Hello everyone,
The flotilla easily travelled the long distance from Swan Reach to
Mannum in daylight. There was plenty of time for the boats to form
up together above Mannum and sail in during the early evening with
fairy lights flashing and music and horns blasting. The parade
going into Mannum was spectacular. All boats had to moor in the
dark, which was not easy, but with good direction from the
organisers occurred with out incident.
Sunday morning
Mid Murray Council delivery many tonnes of wood to the foreshore
for the paddlesteamers and was loaded on board before the crowd
began to arrive.
Thousands of
people flocked to Mannum to participate in the Centenary of
Federation celebrations and look at or ride on the paddlesteamers
and other vessels. Many bands played during the day and well into
the night. The crew of the Oscar W had a sing along on the upper
deck, during the evening, which was enjoyed by people on the
Marion and shore.
The weather
over the weekend at Mannum was damp Saturday and warm and calm
Sunday making ideal conditions for all out door activities. Light
rain began to fall during Sunday night. Lucky for Mannum event
organisers.
Thank you
Mannum.
Monday morning
everyone awoke and found light consistent rain falling that helped
fill the rainwater tank on the Oscar W and must be worth millions
of dollars to farmers.
The flotilla
travels to Murray Bridge today.
Everyone is
starting to watch the weather maps and wishing for good conditions
for the crossing of Lake Alexandrina on Thursday after
celebrations at Wellington on Wednesday afternoon.
Kind regards
Ron Blake on
the Murray.
