UK Wooden Boat Identities to visit 2003
festival
The Festival Committee in conjunction with
the South Australian Tourism Commission will fund the flights of
Iain Oughtred (world renowned Wooden Boat designer) and Dan
Houston (editor of UK Classic boat magazine) to attend the 2003
Wooden Boat Festival.
“This is really big news that Iain
Oughtred is coming home to Australia from his eyrie in Scotland
for a gathering of the clan of literally hundreds of his boats
exclusively for the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival.”
“We already have Western Australian
builders making plans for the long journey in March 2003.”
“Even in South Australia, the driest state
in the driest continent on earth there are over 30 ‘Oughtred’
boats.”

The two international guests will arrive
into Australia in the early part of March. The two men will be
guests of the festival committee with a program of pre festival
wooden boat activities being planned including a journey on the
PS Marion to Goolwa.
