Loxton is one of the
larger towns on the Murray, situated attractively amid lawns and gardens on the southern
side. It is 165 miles from Adelaide, has a District council area of 1,100 square miles,
and a population of 6,500. Initially a farming and grazing area, Loxton is now a thriving
irrigation town with a War Service Land Settlement Scheme, and private irrigation.
