Mildura was established originally as an American-style irrigation
colony.
Alfred Deakin invited the Chaffey brothers, George and William, to develop
an
irrigation system in the 1880's. In 1887 the first irrigation water was pumped
here from
the Murray River.
Mildura is situated in the heart of Sunraysia on the banks of the
Murray River and
is a very popular tourist destination. Mildura is renowned worldwide for
it's produce of
high quality Golden Valencia and Navel oranges, sweet fleshy melons and
dried fruits.
