Relaxing on the Murray

With the opening of the twin Heysen Tunnels through the Mt Lofty Ranges, Murray Bridge has come even closer to Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. The distance may have been shortened by only about two kilometres, but it is not so much the lesser kilometres to travel, but the time saved from the twisting, turning road of the Devils Elbow which has made the difference in having a pleasant day out in the country without taking all day to get there

The Rural City of Murray Bridge has a population of 17,000 with a very pleasant climate. Our greatest natural asset is the River Murray and the principal landmarks are the three bridges. The first bridge over the Murray was built in 1879, a rail bridge opened in 1925, and a second road bridge - the longest across the Murray - completed in 1979 at the end of the South Eastern Freeway, all give a vital link to the eastern States. Water sports, boating, fishing, skiing are popular pastimes all year round.

For further information, contact the Visitor Centre, which is open seven days a week at 3 South Tce Murray Bridge, phone (08) 8539 1142
