GENERAL INFORMATION: 

Renmark nestles in an idyllic setting on a bend of the river. It takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning "Red Mud". The Renmark Irrigation Settlement was established in 1887 by the Chaffey Brothers (Canadians) who opened up the waste land for irrigation.

Renmark is the first major town in the State when entering from the Eastern States along the Sturt Highway. The town is a modern community with a large commercial and business centre, many recreational and sporting facilities.

MAJOR INDUSTRIES/RURAL PRODUCTS:

Tourism, grape growing for winemaking and drying, stone fruits for drying and canning, citrus fruits for juices and local and export market, tomatoes, vegetables, wheat and wool. Other industries include almond growing and pistachio nut cultivation.
