Planning a boat/kayak trip along the Murray River?

There is no one map of the whole Murray River in detail for boating.
There are 2 good books on the market that may be of help with regarding to Murray river charts.
River Murray Charts from Yarrawonga to Renmark
Murray River Pilot from Goolwa to South Australia / New South Wales border
Murray River Access (less about river directly ie sand banks etc) but excellent for river tracks from Mountains to Renmark
Weather conditions of the region are dependant on when you go. Naturally summer is hot and winter is cold but the river is quiet and wonderful. Winter has a lower water level and higher in spring as irrigation waters begin to flow. Good seasons guide comparison on the Houseboat page.
Cowombat Flat is the beginning of the source. You'll need to hike for several hundred kilometres before you can put your craft in. Kayaks and canoes generally start near Bigarra.
Dave Cornthwaite did the Big Murray Paddle some time ago. He has some great stuff on YouTube that you may find of interest.
