Set in the gardens of a grand villa in Messina during the Renaissance wars, the noble Leonato hosts a party of important officers on leave from the battlefield, and entertains them with a grand masque ball.
Matchmaking plans are made to bring together two young couples: the young and willing Hero and Claudio, and the very unwilling spinster and bachelor Beatrice and Benedict. Throw in a dastardly plot to ruin a wedding, a staged funeral and a group of useless constables – what could possibly stand in the way of a happy ending?
Local director, Tony McCaughey has written this adaptation to ensure a modern audience will understand this delightful comedy.
