A ceremony was held on 5 June 1915, to mark the first step in the construction of all the locks and weirs and storage works on the Murray River.At the official centenary event for the start of Locking the Murray River, when PS Marion will again steam into Blanchetown bringing Parliamentarians and others, the book “Harnessing the River Murray” about the people who built the Locks, written by historian Helen Stagg, will be launched.
