Archie Roach
02 Feb 2010
An evening of powerful music – straight from the heart….
Often cited by other musicians as a source of great inspiration, Archie Roach has become a legend of the music industry with his passion for music and performing taking him around the world.
Born at the Framlingham Aboriginal mission in Victoria, Archie Roach was taken from his family at an early age as part of the notorious ‘stolen generation’ and his story of institutions and foster homes has been well documented. In 1990, Archie recorded Charcoal Lane, which brought him instant fame and two ARIA awards. Produced by Paul Kelly and Steve Connolly, this album featured the Aboriginal anthem, Took the Children Away.
With a career spanning two decades Archie has worked with some of the world’s most prestigious producers and musicians – Bob Dylan, Paul Kelly, Crowded House, Weddings Parties Anything, Suzanne Vega, Patti Smith, Joan Armatrading, Billy Bragg and Tracy Chapman.
Archie Roach appears with his band courtesy of the Adelaide Festival.
