Australian National Busking Champs - Rutherglen Heat

Rutherglen is gearing up for its Second Regional Heat of the Australian National Busking Championships (ANBC), which is proudly presented by Destination Rutherglen. “Last year, we introduced Busking to Rutherglen – the community and local businesses welcomed new visitors and the busking community to town. We’re now looking forward to building on last year’s foundation and growing our 2023 event”, Damien Adams, Chair of Destination Rutherglen said.
Entries are being received in all categories – Primary, Secondary and Open age categories with prizes totalling over $10,000. “We are looking for bands, duos, solo artists – vocalists and instrumentalists. Individual entrants could be rewarded with $3000 in cash (Open Age category, $2000 (Best Band) and $1000 for People’s Choice”, Mr Adams said.
Rutherglen’s historic Main Street will be closed to traffic and buskers will play 3 × 30 minute sets from 10.30am to 4pm. Tokens are available to purchase at $1 each to cast votes in the People’s Choice Award. The Judging panel will announce the Busking Rutherglen Heat winners at the Star Hotel at 5pm. “Destination Rutherglen thank Local Business, Indigo Shire and the Community for their support of this exciting event,” Damien Adams said.

aRTS Rutherglen presents the Indie folk band Little Quirks live at the Memorial Hall (music from 7.15pm) bring snacks and nibbles. No BYO – wine and beer at reasonable prices available. Bookings via www.trybooking.com
Open Mic Jam – Busker’s welcome to Rutherglen at the Star Hotel from 8.15pm. Food available (Eastern Palace)
Saturday May 13
Busking on historic Main Street – 13 busking stations with buskers performing live and competing for cash prizes and the chance to represent Rutherglen in the Grand Final to held be in Cooma this November.
10.30am – 4pm: Main Street takes on a carnival atmosphere with live music, street performers, wine from the Winemakers of Rutherglen and a great range of food available. Pull up a chair or take a stroll amongst great live music. All Busking Stations have wet weather contingencies.
5pm: Prize Winner’s Announcement followed by the Busker’s Open Mic Jam at the Star Hotel.
