Join the Australia Day Discovery Cruise and celebrations with the 1907 Paddle Steamer Ruby at the junction of the mighty Murray and Darling rivers. Ruby was known as “The Greyhound of the Murray” as she did the trip from Morgan to Swan Hill, faster than any other Paddle Steamer could. The record still stands today! She did the trip of some 1550 miles in only 10 days. The alternative was horse or ox drawn wagons, which would take you about 3 months.
You will encounter some of the most beautiful and remote parts of the Murray River. “It is a fantastic time to be on the river”, says Captain Leon Wagner. “Our hope is that something you see or hear during your cruise will be exciting or educational, that you come away from your cruise with new friends, a greater appreciation of our regions wonderful natural environment & river, and most importantly, you’ll enjoy yourself!”
Riverboats were the gateway to the outback with over 4000 each year passing through the Port of Wentworth, carrying pioneers and supplies into the outback then returning with wool and crop harvests for the markets in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Be mesmerised by the sound and the power of steam as you relax and connect with like minded people as you discover the history of the outback.
