Pooncarie Field Day
02 May 2009
The Pooncarie Field Day has something for everyone & is filled with a raft of attractions & events.
The Tri-state Blade Shearing Championship is one such event. The current titleholder represented Australia in the World Blade Shearing Championships in 2008.
Over 60 dogs competed in the Sheep Dog Trials in 2007. The event is affiliated with the Australian Sheep Dog Association.
A Fleece Competition & Pastoral Wool Show is well patronized. A separate category exists for wool outside of the rangelands area.
The Pen of 4 Lambs competition puts the new exotic breeds to the test against the traditional breeds. Guessing the weight of a Dorper Ram will prove testing for some too.
Very feral goats are used in the goat dog trials & like the name says, they are feral & unpredictable.
A junior category has been introduced for 2009.
The Ute Competition & whip cracking events are popular. Demonstrations are held during the day & under-lights from specialist whip crackers.
Boot Art, Well-Worn Akubra & Photo competitions have adult & children’s categories.
Other children’s events are the Colouring, Craft & Mother’s Day competitions. An Outback Toy Library & blow-up castle is provided free of charge for the children.
Over 100 exhibitors show their products & range from traditional & alternate livestock studs, associated industry exhibits, trade, vehicles, arts, crafts, home-wares & much more.
“Energy Alternatives†is the theme for 2009. Solar, wind & bio-diesel plus the new Telemetry technologies will be on display.
