Welcome
The Peppin Heritage Centre, which incorporates the Visitor Information Centre is an ideal starting point when you arrive in Deniliquin. The building was Deniliquin’s first public school and has now been transformed into a regional museum and in addition to its permanent exhibitions the Centre hosts a variety of travelling exhibitions each year.
The museum is dedicated to the Peppin family who in the 1800s developed a Merino sheep that could withstand and thrive in the harsh Australian conditions. Today the Peppin bloodline forms the foundation of more than 90% of the nation’s flock. The museum guides visitors on a journey through significant points in the district’s development from its origins as a premier woolgrowing region to the development of the local rice industry and an introduction to the Deniliquin Rice Mill which is considered the largest rice mill in the Southern hemisphere.
