"Indigenous Australians at War from the Boer War to the Present" Shrine of Remembrance travelling exhibition
30 Mar - 27 Apr 2012
Echuca Historical Society is pleased to host a Shrine of Remembrance touring exhibition commemorating and celebrating the involvement of Indigenous Australians in war and peacekeeping roles.
The touring exhibition " Indigenous Australians at War" will be hosted at the Echuca Moama Uniting Church Hall, Hare Street, Echuca from Friday 30 March till Saturday 28 April, open daily 11am -3pm, also late opening Wednesdays 5pm – 7pm.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ stories presented in the exhibition are drawn from all over Australia, and organisers are seeking local stories for inclusion.
Aboriginal men and women have combined modern military and uniquely indigenous skills in the service of their country. The exhibition covers their contributions to wartime activities in the Boer War (1899-1902), the First World War (1914-18), Second World War (1939-45), Korean War (1950-53), Vietnam War (1963-72) and in subsequent conflicts and peacekeeping.
